Service-learning was on full display at Bellefontaine High School on Friday.

Four students hosted a free luncheon for classified employees at AcuSport Stadium.

Tanner Harte, Justin Kerns, Lane Reeves, and Austin Rutherford organized and prepared the meal, which included pulled pork, green beans, macaroni & cheese, and deep-fried Oreos.

Each student in the service class must complete a capstone project to receive their community service seal from the state.

Rick Reed and Chris Miller teach the class.

Harte, Kerns, Reeves, and Rutherford decided to thank the classified staff (bus drivers, cooks, custodians, aides, and support staff) with a free lunch for 35 staff members.

Longtime high school teacher Matt Gallaway taught the students how to smoke the pork on Thursday.

Kristy Feasel, April Jameson, and Darin Vermillion also helped with the meal prep.

Reed said the project was a big success. “The first goal is to get the students experience serving others. We hope they continue serving our community as adults.”
