Bellefontaine High School recently named its Seniors of the Month.

Name: Maggie Howard

Parents: Thomas and Sara Howard

Address: Bellefontaine

School activities and awards: Envirothon President, GSA President, National Honor Society, DARE Community Outreach Officer, BHS Marching Band Field Commander, Symphonic Band, Symphonic Choir Section Leader, Les Fons, and Musical. I’ve earned the Outstanding Academic Excellence Award for English, Honda Breakfast Award for Choir, Central Buckeye Conference Academic Honors, and the Heart of a Chieftain Award.

If I were principal for a day: I would stop all classes, have free ice cream (with sprinkles, very important), French Fries, and pizza for everyone and have one large Kahoot set up for all students to join in.

Favorite school memory: My favorite memory will always be conducting as the field commander the past two years at every Friday night football game.

People who have been an inspiration to me: My parents, brothers, and friends who have always pushed me to be my best and have encouraged me to be as outgoing as I possibly can. My teachers Mr. Sigrist, Mr. Henry, Mrs. Johnson, and Mrs. Mount for always encouraging me.

Lately I’ve been reading: The Percy Jackson series.

My advice to parents: Allow your children to do as many activities as they can handle and push them to do even more in high school. The best memories I have made are not in a classroom but are in extracurricular activities.

My biggest regret: Not taking in and being grateful to experience every day at BHS these past four years.

Next year: I will be attending The Ohio State University and majoring in communications.

Name: Max Varner

Parents: Randy and Jodi Varner

Address: Bellefontaine

School activities and awards: National Honor Society Vice President, DARE, High School Impact Leader, TEAMS, and Chieftain Leaders. I received the Honda Breakfast Award in 2023.

If I were principal for a day: I would fill the newly vacant science position with Mrs. Mount.

Favorite school memory: I’ve loved getting to meet new friends and socialize, including the great staff at BHS.

People who have been an inspiration to me: My family and friends have challenged and inspired me to be the best I can be.

Lately I’ve been reading: Due to my classwork, it’s mainly anatomy, sciences, and Civil War reading material.

My advice to parents: Something my parents always said was, “We aren’t your friends, we’re parents.” So don’t coddle your kids and teach them what real life is like.

My biggest regret: Not making a time machine so I could stay this age longer.

Next year: I will be attending college to study animal science.
