Bellefontaine High School students and staff rolled up their sleeves and donated blood Tuesday morning.

The BHS DARE Club coordinated a blood drive with the Community Blood Center.

The blood drive was held in the high school gym.

DARE Club President Chloe Lloyd organized the event.

She reports that 64 students and staff registered to donate.

90 percent of the donors were students.

It was the first blood drive at the high school since the pandemic began.

BHS is set to host another blood drive in the fall.

The DARE Club co-advisors are Emily Clinehens and Kristy Mount.

Clinehens said, “Today's blood drive was a huge success. This was almost everyone's first blood donation, and they did extremely well.

“Chloe Lloyd set up and executed this like a pro. She really is a rock star.

“Special thanks to Ms. Mount and Officer Walters for their help in planning, and to all the teachers who also donated blood today.”

The Community Blood Center reports that blood is needed every two seconds. About one in seven people entering a hospital needs blood. Blood is always needed for treatment of accident victims, cancer patients, hemophiliacs, and surgery patients.
