The Bellefontaine Board of Education met Monday night and thanked an outgoing board member for his service.

Scott Abraham is retiring after 6 years on the board.

Initially, Abraham was appointed to fill the unexpired term of Josh Stolly in January 2016.

Abraham was then elected to serve another 4 years.

Superintendent Brad Hall said, “I appreciate Scott’s leadership and service the last 6 years.”

Abraham’s successor will be Bryn Daring-Stewart, who was elected last month.

Longtime high school robotics teacher Shawn Miller has been accepted into the National Occupational Competency Testing Institute.

Training for the 9-month program started this month.

Miller stated, “Not only will this add more industry credentials to BHS offerings, but also raise the bar on the robot certification for our students.”

Seminar Week has been very successful at BHS. High school students have been taking end-of-course exams the last few days. Seminar Week has shortened the testing period from 15 days to 5 days, which allows for more instructional time.

Chieftain Pride Ambassadors at Bellefontaine Middle School recently hosted a very successful coin war.

Students raised about $1,200. The money will be split between the Neighborhood Outreach Center and Lutheran Community Services in Bellefontaine.

The board approved the BHS Band trip to Orlando, Florida, from December 26th-30th, 2022.

The marching band will play at the Cheez-It Bowl in Orlando.

This will replace the trip to Philadelphia and New York City, which the band has done every four years.

Philadelphia and New York have very stringent COVID restrictions.

In personnel, the board accepted the resignations of high school attendance secretary Tonja Braun and educational aide Robin Butler.

Braun was then hired as a part-time secretary at the board office.

Elizabeth Kieffer was approved as a food service worker.

Lauren Carter, Titus Davie, Sean Egler, Megan Sechrest, Caitlyn Shumaker, and Jason Warner were approved as substitute teachers.

Jake Kennedy was hired as the freshman boys basketball coach.

Donovan Dinovo was approved as a middle school boys basketball assistant coach.

The board recognized November Seniors of the Month Mia McDonald and Jaquan Mundy.

Finally, Board President Brenda Sanford was elected president pro-tempore.

The next board meeting will be January 12th at 6:30 p.m. in the Distance Learning Center.

An organizational meeting will be followed by the monthly meeting that evening.
