Voters showed their continued support for Bellefontaine City Schools on Tuesday.

The Substitute Emergency Operating Levy passed 1,394 to 967 (59 to 41 percent).

The levy replaces an existing Emergency Operating Levy that was originally passed in 2007.

The Substitute Emergency Operating Levy will collect the same dollar amount annually, $1.185 million that taxpayers are currently paying. The Substitute Levy addresses new growth and allows the district to capture additional revenue without negatively impacting current home and business owners. This will allow the collection to be divided up among more entities.

The funds generated will be used for daily operating expenses in the district.

Superintendent Brad Hall had this reaction. “On behalf of the Board of Education and staff of the Bellefontaine City School District, we thank the Bellefontaine community for approving our Substitute Emergency Operating Levy with such a show of support. Voters in the Bellefontaine School District have a long history of supporting their schools and that support was demonstrated again on Election Day. The district will continue to be good stewards of taxpayer dollars, just as we have in the past, and our students will continue to have tremendous opportunities. Again, on behalf of the Board and staff, thank you so much for your support!”
