Bellefontaine City Schools swept top honors for the second straight year in the 2023 Logan County Spelling Bee at the Holland Theatre Tuesday night.

Bellefontaine Middle School seventh-grader Sloan Stolly was crowned champion.

BMS seventh-grader Caden Yoder was runner-up after a two-round spell-off against Bellefontaine Intermediate School fifth-grader Eva Wilson.

Stolly spelled “unseemly” to advance to the championship word. She then spelled “engagement” to win the title.

Stolly is the daughter of Josh and Whitney Stolly.

Yoder is the son of Colin and Carrie Yoder.

The annual competition went 18 rounds, including the two-round spell-off.

The spelling bee featured eleven students from Bellefontaine, Benjamin Logan, Indian Lake, and Riverside.

The four Bellefontaine City Schools students were seventh-graders Sloan Stolly and Caden Yoder along with fifth-graders Eva Wilson and William Campbell.

The Midwest Regional Educational Service Center hosted the spelling bee.

Erica Baer was the emcee.

Midwest Regional Educational Service Center Superintendent Scott Howell, Indian Lake Schools Gifted Specialist Cammie Honaker, and Bellefontaine City Schools Gifted Specialist Katie Davis served as judges.
