The Bellefontaine High School Marching Band performed in the Memorial Day Parade Monday morning.

Local residents lined Main Street, East Sandusky Avenue, and Hayes Street to watch this year’s parade.

38 entrants participated, including several first responders along with local businesses and organizations.

The 92-member BHS Band played “Beautiful America.”

Band director Jeremy Karg said, “I’m very proud of the students who showed up and gave their time after the school year was over, especially the senior class. It shows their dedication to the program and the community. They sounded great and looked great.”

The grand marshal was Danny Woodard.

Mr. Woodard served in the U.S. Army from 1966-1969.

He completed two tours in Vietnam.

Woodard, who was a crew chief, was named the Logan County Vietnam Veteran of the Year in March.

Bellefontaine Mayor Ben Stahler and Vietnam veteran Larry Lattimer were also in the parade.

Following the parade, a Memorial Day ceremony was held in the Bellefontaine Cemetery.

Stahler and Lattimer each spoke and reflected on the many service members who were killed to defend our freedom.

Lattimer enlisted in the Marines in 1969. He served in Vietnam from September 1971 to July 1972.

The master of ceremonies was Robert Walker.

A wreath-laying ceremony, 21-gun salute, and playing of Taps closed out the program.

Taps was performed by BHS band members Emma Costin and Blaine Mitchell.

The parade and ceremony were coordinated by veteran Tim Shaw of Bellefontaine.
