The seventh episode of “Chieftain Roll Call” has been released.

The Bellefontaine High School Key Club launched the new podcast in January.

The weekly show focuses on BHS Athletics and student organizations.

The most recent show features three high school track coaches.

Longtime BHS boys and girls head track coach Ben Davis along with assistant coaches Sean Egler and Cody Sigrist discussed the upcoming season.

Davis has been coaching the Chiefs’ track program for 36 years.

He said the pandemic has hurt participation numbers statewide after COVID prompted the OHSAA to cancel the 2020 track season.

Bellefontaine has 36 boys and 28 girls on this year’s teams.

Ideally, Davis would like to see about 90 combined athletes out for track.

The BHS boys finished runner-up in the CBC last spring.

Davis said defending champ London is the favorite again this year.

The Lady Chiefs will be fueled by a very talented freshman class.

Earlier this month, freshmen Ava Reeves and Kylie Adams along with sophomore Ashlyn Gonterman placed at the state indoor championship meet in Geneva (east of Cleveland).

Egler and Sigrist are confident the Chiefs will be very strong this spring.

The boys team has several outstanding sprinters.

Bellefontaine opens the season on March 29th.

BHS will host the Chieftain Relays on April 14th.

Finally, this week’s show featured in-depth thoughts on March Madness.

Gonzaga and UCLA were the choices to win the men’s basketball tournament, which concludes in New Orleans on April 4th.

“Chieftain Roll Call” is hosted by Bill Tipple.

Teacher/coach Rick Reed and BHS student-athlete Jack Varner are regular contributors, too.

BHS Key Club members and students in Aaron Gregor’s TV Production class help produce and record the show.

“Chieftain Roll Call” is sponsored by Easton Water Solutions.

Easton Water will fund the Key Club Scholarship, which is presented each year to at least one BHS grad.
