L to R: BHS head football coach Jason Brown and host Don Hensley

The seventh episode of “Chieftain Coaches Corner” featured three BHS football coaches and two players this week.

The podcast offers in-depth talk from coaches and other guests, too.

Host Don Hensley was joined by Bellefontaine head football coach Jason Brown, assistant coaches Gail Clark and Biff Roberts, and senior offensive linemen Keagon Overton-Story and Jazander Johnson.

Coach Brown talked about last Friday’s league win at Kenton Ridge.

The Chiefs steamrolled the Cougars 49-14.

BHS scored touchdowns on all six first-half possessions.

Junior tailback Chris Fogan was spectacular again.

He rushed for 253 yards and 4 touchdowns on 12 carries.

Sophomore quarterback Tavien St. Clair passed for 215 yards and 3 touchdowns.

St. Clair set single-season school records for passing yards (1,988) and touchdown passes (22).

Brown previewed the showdown with London.

He said the Red Raiders “like to play in a phone booth” regarding their rugged line play on both sides of the ball.

London has beaten the Chiefs three consecutive times since joining the CBC in 2019.

The Red Raiders won the league title last fall.

Bellefontaine can capture an outright league title with a win Friday night.

BHS alums Biff Roberts and Gail Clark reflected on the long tradition of Chieftain Football.

Roberts started serving as an assistant football coach at Bellefontaine in 1981.

Clark, who’s a BHS Hall of Famer, joined the staff the following year.

Roberts helps coach the defensive backs and Clark assists with the linebackers.

They talked about the growth of both position groups this season.

Clark added that this year’s team is as strong as any team he’s seen at BHS.

Roberts and Clark also shared how football has evolved with increased passing and scoring the last 15-20 years.

Overton-Story and Johnson discussed their roles as starting offensive tackles.

Both seniors would like to play college football.
