Students use cornmeal to learn the effects of erosion.

Fourth-graders at Bellefontaine Intermediate School enjoyed a hands-on lesson earlier this month.

Mrs. Brown and Mrs. Regula’s students did an experiment titled “Cornmeal Canyons” to learn the effects of erosion, weathering, and deposition.

Students used cornmeal to demonstrate the effects of erosion.

Deposition happens when the agents of erosion (wind or water) lay down sediment.

Deposition changes the shape of the land.

Erosion, weathering, and deposition are at work everywhere on Earth.

Gravity pulls everything toward the center of Earth causing rock and other materials to move downhill.
