It’s been a busy week of construction projects across Bellefontaine City Schools this week.

Progress continues on the large renovation project at Bellefontaine High School.

Roofing contractors started to demolish roof areas and will be installing 5 inches of new insulation and new membrane over affected areas.

Significant progress has been made in the building crawl spaces to replace old, original cast iron piping with new sanitary lines.

Crews started a large cooling project at BHS in late May.

Several new univents have been installed in classrooms on the first and second floor.

Waibel Energy Systems from Vandalia is performing the $1.2 million project over summer break.

Waibel has been the service provider for HVAC at BCS for several years.

ESSER II funds from the federal government will pay for the project, which will provide healthier air and increased energy efficiency.

The new chiller system will cool the original 35 classrooms at BHS. That portion of the high school was built in 1968.

Upon completion, each classroom will have individual temperature controls.

The new equipment will incorporate CO2 sensors, fresh air, and ionization for a healthier air environment for students and staff.

There’s another project happening at Bellefontaine High School.

Energy Optimizers, USA from Dayton is performing the $3.7 million project this summer and next summer.

ESSER III funds from the federal government will pay for the project, which will lead to energy and maintenance savings for years to come.

The project will provide a cleaner indoor environment, a healthy learning environment, extend the life of the building, and avoid future capital costs.

The specific components of the project include: replace an outdated chiller, add cooling to the high school gym, replace aging piping, remodel restrooms, replace two sections of the roof (library and center classrooms), new doors and windows, flooring, and building controls.

Crews were also busy making improvements at Bellefontaine Elementary School and Bellefontaine Middle School this week.

Paving projects wrapped up on each campus Tuesday afternoon.

New asphalt was laid in each parking lot near the dumpsters behind the school.

The deteriorated asphalt was ground down 2 inches on Monday.
