The Bellefontaine varsity boys basketball team dropped their season opener to visiting Wapakoneta 54-31 Tuesday night.

The Chiefs trailed 13-11 after the opening quarter.

The Redskins outscored Bellefontaine 17-4 in the pivotal second quarter.

Bellefontaine hit 6 of 18 free throw attempts on the night.

Declan Shannon led the Chiefs with 10 points.

Teammate Kaden Reames added 7 points.

For Wapakoneta, Zach Rogers and Kaden Siefring each tossed in 12 points.

The Redskins are 2-0.

The Chiefs (0-1) will open league play at Tecumseh on Friday night.

BHS head coach Henry Stolly said, “I thought our kids played really hard early in the game. Some of our turnovers in the second quarter hurt us. Their offensive rebounding also was a factor. We have to keep moving forward.”

The Lady Chiefs Little Dribblers entertained the crowd at halftime.
