The latest episode of “Chieftain Roll Call” spotlights the Bellefontaine High School DECA Chapter.

Initially, the Bellefontaine High School Key Club launched the podcast in January 2022.

The newly-formed Chieftain Backers are in charge of the podcast this school year.

The weekly show focuses on BHS Athletics and student organizations.

The most recent show features Bellefontaine High School DECA Advisor Jake Kennedy and senior Zach Horvath.

Kennedy detailed the DECA State Competition that was held at the Columbus Convention Center on March 10th-11th.

Horvath won the state title in the Business Growth Plan event with his LLC Horvath Productions.

Horvath qualified for the national competition that will take place in Orlando, Florida, on April 22nd-25th.

The duo of Marco Martinez & Alex Miller finished 7th in the state in the Sports & Entertainment Team Decision Making event.

Seniors Keagon Overton-Story, Lily Palmer, and Maddie Williams along with junior Mia Oppy will represent BHS at the Ignite Leadership Academy in Orlando. This coincides with the national competition.

Horvath, Overton-Story, Palmer, Williams, and Oppy need to raise funds for their trip to Florida. The total cost for the students to attend will be approximately $7,500.

If interested in sponsoring the Bellefontaine DECA Chapter and supporting the BHS state champion as he moves onto nationals, please reach out to DECA advisor Jake Kennedy at [email protected] or send a check payable to BHS DECA to Bellefontaine High School, 555 East Lake Avenue, Bellefontaine, OH 43311.

Kennedy and Horvath explained how DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management.

They also discussed how the program helps get students ready for “real world” business scenarios.

The first guests on this episode were Bellefontaine assistant football coach Rick Reed and junior Jack Varner.

Reed and Varner reflected on the first two weeks of March Madness.

They both picked Houston to play Alabama in the championship game on April 3rd.

“Chieftain Roll Call” is hosted by Bill Tipple.

Students in Aaron Gregor’s TV Production class help produce and record the show.

“Chieftain Roll Call” is sponsored by Easton Water Solutions.
