Chieftain Roll Call spotlights BHS Swim Teams

The latest episode of “Chieftain Roll Call” spotlights the Bellefontaine High School Swim Teams.

Initially, the Bellefontaine High School Key Club launched the podcast in January 2022.

The newly-formed Chieftain Backers are in charge of the podcast this school year.

The weekly show focuses on BHS Athletics and student organizations.

The most recent show features Bellefontaine High School head swim coach Sharon Lewis along with senior swimmers Blake McDonald and Olivia Ullom.

Lewis detailed high expectations for both squads this winter.

It’s her 13th season as the head coach of both teams.

McDonald and Ullom discussed their vast improvement in the pool the last three years.

The girls’ team features 27 swimmers, and the boys’ team has 14 swimmers.

22 of the 41 swimmers are new to the program.

BHS opened the season at the Bellbrook Invitational last Saturday.

The Chieftain boys won the 10-team meet.

McDonald was 1st in the 50 back and 3rd in the 50 free.

The Lady Chiefs finished 6th.

Ullom finished 5th in the 50 breast.

Bellefontaine competed in a double dual meet at Kenton on Tuesday night.

The boys beat Botkins 60-31, but fell to Kenton 49-45.

McDonald took 1st in the 100 back and 2nd in the 50 free.

Aidan Mifsud won the 100 free and placed 2nd in the 200 IM.

Nolan Core was 1st in the 200 free and 3rd in the 100 fly.

The girls outscored Botkins 62-32 and lost to Kenton 56-38.

Ullom was fastest in the 100 free and 100 breast.

Joslyn Robinson finished 1st in the 100 back and 200 IM.

The Chiefs return to the pool this Saturday at Trotwood-Madison.

The first guests on this episode were Bellefontaine assistant football coach Rick Reed and junior center Jack Varner.

Reed and Varner reflected on Tavien St. Clair, CJ Wilson, Alex Caudill, and Sullivan Ashcraft earning All-Ohio honors on the gridiron.

Reed and Varner also talked about the College Football Playoff.
