125 Bellefontaine High School students saw numerous sites on their visit to our nation’s capital last week.

BHS Assistant Principal Cliff Core reports that 92 freshmen and 33 sophomores enjoyed the four-day trip.

Core served as one of the chaperones.

Students visited the Smithsonian, which includes museums highlighting American History, Natural History, Air and Space, and the Marine Corps.

In addition, students went to Arlington National Cemetery.

BHS students Kody Watts, John Fulmer, Eleyna Williams, and Camryn Seiber laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

Other sites included the White House, Capitol, and Mount Vernon along with memorials for George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, Franklin Roosevelt, Dwight Eisenhower, Martin Luther King, World War II, Korean War, and Vietnam War.

Finally, students visited Gettysburg on their return home.

The last two trips to DC (spring of 2020 & 2021) were cancelled because of COVID.

Core said, “Overall the trip was a success. This is the first time two classes traveled to DC as the pandemic had delayed both classes.

“The class trip to DC is a memorable experience. It gives students an opportunity to experience and learn about our nation’s history firsthand. I am thankful that our board and community continue to support this once-in-a-lifetime experience for our students.

“This was the first time Bellefontaine City Schools has taken a trip in the fall. DC was less crowded and students were able to see the monuments at night.”

Bellefontaine eighth-graders will visit Washington DC in May 2022.
