The Bellefontaine Elementary School Reading Olympics culminated in the Distance Learning Center Monday.

The annual event is a three-month competition for 2nd-graders.

Each student was challenged to read 14 books.

They had to read at least 7 books to qualify for Monday’s final.

Each student was also required to fill out journal pages to show they understood each book.

22 students advanced to the final event, which was similar to a game show.

Eight teams were formed and answered questions about the books they read.

Each book was on the 4th-5th grade reading level.

BES Gifted Intervention Specialist Stephanie Fissel said, “The goal of the Reading Olympics is to foster the love for reading. All of the reading is done on the student’s own time.”
