Team Katie (the Bellefontaine varsity softball team) was playing for a special cause Monday night.

Longtime head coach Katie Buffkin was recently diagnosed with breast cancer.

Every BHS player wore pink jerseys with “Team Katie” displayed on them.

The Lady Chiefs rallied to beat visiting London 6-5 at Blue Jacket Park.

Sophomore reliever Kassi Prine was the winning pitcher.

Freshman Addison Wical delivered the game-winning hit in the bottom of the seventh inning for the walk-off win.

Junior Rianna Fullerton had two hits and scored the winning run.

Wical had three hits, including a triple.

Senior Aubrey Hudson belted a double and a home run.

Prine added a double.

The Lady Chiefs improve to 8-8 overall and 4-6 in the CBC.

London is 8-8, 5-5.

Finally, every player and coach on the BHS varsity BASEBALL team presented Coach Katie with a pink rose, a hug, and a gift bag with cards and notes moments before the game started Monday.

There was also a bake sale near the diamond to support Team Katie.
