Summer School is in full swing at Bellefontaine City Schools this month.

BCS knows that having a strong educational foundation is important when transitioning grades.

Summer School is offered to assist students who could benefit from extra support in making that transition to the next grade.

Summer School meets on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

Bellefontaine Middle School is hosting Summer School for grades 6-8 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Whitney Stolly is the Summer School Coordinator at BMS.

19 students are enrolled.

The teachers are Joliece Reed, Taylor Bodey, and Paul Kite.

Stolly described the program. “There is an academic component to help build on reading and math skills, which builds confidence. Our classroom participation has increased this week.”

Students are rewarded, too.

There is a raffle for attendance and completing math and reading lessons.

Each raffle winner receives a gift certificate provided by BMS+.

There is a candy drawing each day as well.

The students also play games to stimulate creative thinking and to build teamwork skills.

Students in grades 9-12 are doing credit recovery through the Virtual Learning Academy.

Bellefontaine Elementary School is hosting Summer School for grades K-5 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Megan Cira is the Summer School Coordinator at BES.

75 students are enrolled.

Nine teachers are leading the program.

Students are receiving extra practice on skills learned throughout the year.

There is a smaller student to teacher ratio, which allows for tutoring in a small group setting.

Students also have access to technology and curriculum.

There will be a field trip on the final day (June 30th) to celebrate their hard work.

Finally, BCS provides busing for Summer School students.
