Over the next few months, parents will decide where to enroll their children for the ’23-’24 school year.

Bellefontaine City Schools is asking Why BCS?

Parent and longtime community leader Joan Haushalter shares her story.

Why BCS? Because BCS sets your student up for success in life! BCS offers an outstanding education and opportunities for every interest. If you haven’t asked about the curriculum and the athletics and the musical and creative arts and whatever else might interest your student, you need to!

Everything is there for your student, starting with preschool where our youngest students receive one-on-one attention and a fantastic jump start to their social and curricular education, right through high school where students can choose from dozens of college prep and advanced placement classes while participating in multiple athletic, musical, and special interest co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. The arrangement of the buildings to accommodate grades PreK-2, 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12 lets students team up with their peers, allowing for learning and socialization in age-appropriate and creative environments.

You should see how vibrant and fun our elementary school is! Students learn how to be part of a winning team, a collaborative group, and a classroom of leaders and friends; but they also receive individualized attention to find the success they need with the fundamentals of reading and the building blocks of math. If a student excels in a subject, they can accelerate, because BCS has been a trailblazer for decades in accelerated and expanded opportunities for students.

At our elementary and intermediate buildings, I promise you the smiles are plentiful and the energy is electric! When students get to the middle school, the foundation they’ve received in PreK-5th grade has made them ready to really start exploring their individual strengths and interests, and to continue to embrace new challenges.

And then there’s the high school. Where else can a high school student spend a day as diverse as studying multivariable calculus one hour, Civil War history the next hour, hands-on computer and 3-D printing classes, followed by jazz band practice and real-life marketing? BCS students get the chance to build a Rube Goldberg project, build and program a robot, learn teamwork and skills from coaches and teachers to take them to the next level, develop lifelong confidence through music and art lessons, and so much more!

Why BCS? Because BCS sets your student up for success in life! I know this, because both of my daughters are proud BCS alumni and have successful careers in their areas of interest - thanks to their start at BCS. BCS is a microcosm of the world, and your student gets to experience all the benefits of that marvelous environment! When you are choosing the school that will give your child the best start in life, I encourage you to Say Yes to BCS!
