Lutheran Community Services hosted a groundbreaking for a new facility in Bellefontaine recently, and BHS students are set to help.

Students in the high school community service learning class will help raise funds for the large project.

The new $1.6 million facility will be located on the corner of West Sandusky Avenue and Troy Road.

This will be the new home of Our Daily Bread and the Lutheran Thrift Store.

LCS board members along with local and state officials attended the ceremony.

Executive Director Kim Collum says the project has been in the works since 2013.

The new facility will offer more space, which will allow more meals to be served at Our Daily Bread.

Seven major donors were recognized. They include: Honda, Link Construction, United Way of Logan County, Coverlink Insurance, Mary Rutan Foundation, Richwood Bank, and the State of Ohio.

The state budget allocated $200,000 for the project.

State Representative Nino Vitale spearheaded the effort to secure those funds.

Fundraising continues for the new facility.

If you would like to donate or volunteer, contact Collum at 937-592-9914.

Currently, Our Daily Bread serves hot meals five days a week at 223 Oakland Square.

The location also has a food pantry and thrift store.

The new facility is scheduled to open in June 2023.

BHS students will make a donation later this school year.

Longtime high school teacher Rick Reed is a Lutheran Community Services board member.

He said, “Lutheran Community Services is a vital part of our community, and it’s gratifying to see the investment in its future. Countless BCS students have benefited greatly from Our Daily Bread. Additionally, many students have also given back in a variety of ways of service. It’s been a great partnership.”

Students from the BHS community service learning class have been volunteers at Our Daily Bread for the last 6 years.
