Rotary Four-Way Test

The Bellefontaine Rotary Club is gearing up for its annual Four-Way Test Speech Contest.

The contest is an opportunity for local high school students to learn about Rotary and the Four-Way Test. The Bellefontaine Rotary Club has invited local high school contestants to present their speeches to the club on Monday, March 6th at noon.

The guidelines for contestants has been shared with local high school principals to start recruiting potential candidates. Each high school has been asked to hold their own in-school competition. The first-place winner from each local high school will compete on March 6th at the Hilliker YMCA during the Rotary Club meeting from 12 to 1 p.m. It is certain that the speeches will provide the members with a thought-provoking experience as well as an opportunity to meet outstanding youth from our community.

Students may work with their teachers, parents, and/or Rotary members to prepare for the local competition. This contest places special emphasis on the application of the Four-Way Test in the speech to the concepts of leadership, service to others, and/or life experience. All aspects of the Rotary Four-Way Test noted below must be articulated in the four to six-minute speech. The speech is to be presented from memory without the aid of podium/lectern, notes, displays, or props.

·       Is it the Truth?

·       Is it Fair to all concerned?

·       Will it build Goodwill and Better Friendships?

·       Will it be Beneficial to all concerned?

The Bellefontaine Rotary Club will award prizes in the amount of $200 First Place, $100 Second Place, and $50 Third Place.

The first-place winner from the Bellefontaine Rotary Club competition will compete in the District Level Contest at Wright State University, Millett Hall, Dayton, Ohio, on Sunday, March 26th at noon. Four District prizes will be awarded: First Place: $400, Second Place $300, Third Place $200, and Fourth Place: $100.
