Hundreds of young students learned some Thanksgiving history last week.

Third-graders at Bellefontaine Intermediate School and kindergartners at Bellefontaine Elementary School were busy learning about the famous Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Third-grade students read Balloons over Broadway by Melissa Sweet.

The book tells the story of the man behind the balloons and floats we see in today’s parade.

Students also took virtual field trips to the float workshop in New York City to learn how the balloon floats are designed and made.

Students were then given certain materials to build their own balloon floats for the third-grade parade.

The students enjoyed working together and were proud to display their floats in the parade.

190 kindergartners at Bellefontaine Elementary School led a parade through the building last Thursday.

The first and second-graders were spectators at the parade.

Earlier this fall, kindergartners read Turkey Trouble and Balloons over Broadway.

Kindergartners enjoyed a pizza party after the parade.

The first Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade was in 1924.

Happy Thanksgiving from Bellefontaine City Schools!
