An outstanding student and wrestler has made her college choice.

Bellefontaine standout Makayla Young signed her letter of intent with Indiana Tech earlier this month.

She was joined by her family, teammates, and coaches during the signing ceremony in the BHS Distance Learning Center.

Young chose Indiana Tech because of the environment.

She liked the campus, coaches, and future teammates.

Young started dreaming of becoming a college wrestler in seventh grade.

The Warriors were ranked 15th in the final NAIA women’s wrestling rankings last month.

The private university is located in Ft. Wayne, Indiana.

Young, who started wrestling in fourth-grade, has put together a banner career.

She finished runner-up at the girls state meet at 100 lbs. last month.

She placed third in the state meet in 2020 and 2021.

Young is a two-time district champ.

She advanced to the boys district tournament in Wilmington over the weekend.

Young plans to study accounting.

Makayla also considered Tiffin University and North Central College (near Chicago).

She has maintained a 4.3 grade point average at BHS while wrestling year-round.

Her parents are Ryan Young and Amy Young.

Young reflected on her signing, “It was really cool to finally commit. I’ve wanted to wrestle in college since junior high.”

Bellefontaine wrestling coach Brady Hiatt added, “Makayla has an unbelievable work ethic. When you have that level of commitment, you’re going to be great. She has left a lasting impression on our program.”
