Today is Bus Driver Appreciation Day across Ohio.

Bellefontaine City Schools is proud of the work our drivers do each day.

Several staff members offered their praise, too.

Here are some of those comments:

This year, more than ever, our drivers deserve this recognition. With the current driver shortage, our group of great drivers have stepped up and went above and beyond to make sure all students are picked up and delivered home safely. Drivers have sacrificed their personal time by sometimes driving 10-12 hours a day, making sure their routes are completed, running a mid-day route, and then turning around and taking a sporting event in the evening, not to mention all the weekend trips they take. All our drivers recognize this shortage and have rearranged their schedules so as not to miss any work; this says a lot about the drivers that work here at BCS. Even our sub drivers have stepped up to the plate. Our top 3 subs are driving routes every day and continue to be a godsend to our department. If it weren't for them I am not sure how we would continue to run.

The BCS bus riders are an invaluable resource to our school. We depend on them each day and appreciate all they do for the students of BCS. They arrive to work early, drive in conditions many of us will not, and in a huge bus with lots of kids in their care. They also give up their evenings and weekends with their own family so that our kids can go to track meets, football games, band competitions, tennis matches, and robotics competitions just to name a few. Thank you, thank you, thank you BCS bus drivers. We love you and appreciate all you do.

We at BHS are very thankful for the dedication to our students that the bus crew provides. Back in the day I struggled driving my 3 kids to places without bickering. I don't know how they do it day in and day out. Keep up the great work!! We appreciate you!

I am so thankful that our BCS bus drivers share their smiles, get our students safely to their schools and back, and make a great impact with the compassion they have for our kids. Thanks for all you do!

Being the high school and middle school athletic director (and overseeing all of the clubs/groups at the high school), I find it incredible that Tammie and her team in the transportation department always have our kids where they need to be on time. Many of our drivers run a full route, and then turn right around and spend 5-6 additional hours driving our student-athletes to their games. I speak for all of our coaches, student-athletes, club members, and advisors when I say THANK YOU to all of our transportation workers (drivers, mechanics, and supervisors).

BES loves our bus drivers! They are a special group of people who shoulder an immense responsibility! Anyone who has raised children knows that it takes a special kind of magic to get everyone where they need to be on time and smiling, and yet these bus drivers make it happen every day! They know our kids and their families and pay attention to make sure our youngest Chieftains get home to safe situations. I am so grateful for not only the job they do, but the way that they do it.

I am so very thankful for our wonderful bus drivers. They do an important job that is very difficult. They take care of our students by driving safely. The bus driver is the first school employee they see in the morning and the last one they see in the afternoon. It is a job that I couldn't do, so I am happy that there are people who enjoy it and step into that role.

Tammie Garman is the transportation supervisor at Bellefontaine City Schools.

Garman and her staff safely drive students to and from Bellefontaine Elementary School, Bellefontaine Intermediate School, Bellefontaine Middle School, and Bellefontaine High School.
