The Rotary Club Scholarships have been awarded since 1964. To date, the local club has awarded over $265,000.
The guest speaker was U.S. Army Veteran Daniel Deardorff, a 2004 graduate from Benjamin Logan.
Deardorff shared how his faith shaped him, especially after high school.
He said his belief in God helped him while serving as a radar crew member in Afghanistan in 2006.
Deardorff said the military taught him the importance of hard work and discipline.
After the military, he completed his degree in manufacturing engineering technology at Ohio Northern University.
Deardorff landed his first job at Boeing Corporation in Oregon.
He then earned his master’s degree at Washington State University.
Deardorff has moved back to Ohio. He is currently a manufacturing engineering manager at Navistar in Springfield.
He has given back to his respective communities in many ways, including the prison ministry and Habitat for Humanity.
Deardorff encouraged the seniors to do three things – seek a higher power, serve their community, and work hard.
He said intelligence and talent will not replace hard work.
Rotary Club President Angel Payne emceed the awards ceremony.
