Blended Learning Update

Recently, the Ohio Department of Education and the Columbus Dispatch published a list of districts who applied for the option to have Blended Learning next school year. I want to provide additional information.

Districts who want to have the option to have blended learning opportunities for students next year had to submit a signed letter, School District Blended Learning Declaration Form, to the Ohio Department of Education no later than July 1. Blended learning means the delivery of instruction in a combination of time and location away from home or the physical school. Only through a desire to keep all of our options open for the 2020-2021 school year, Bellefontaine City Schools submitted the letter on Tuesday, June 9, 2020. We simply secured it as an option prior to a deadline established through the Ohio Department of Education. As you can read from the response below, we are not required to implement it.

We were granted approval to implement Blended Learning as an option through the following reply from the Ohio Department of Education:

“Thank you for submitting a Blended Learning Model Declaration for the 2020-2021 school year. The declaration serves as notification to the Ohio Department of Education of your intent to implement a Blended Learning Model in your district. The district is not required to operate under a Blended Learning Model throughout the school year. The declaration only communicates your intent to implement the Blended Learning Model, and there is no penalty if you choose not to implement it. We appreciate your flexibility as we navigate through unprecedented times.”
