Bellefontaine Community:

While information is constantly changing, I would like to provide you an update, based on the best information we have today, our plan to start the 2020-21 school year.  Just prior to the Fourth of July weekend, Gov. DeWine, the Ohio Department of Education and the Ohio Department of Health provided districts with guidance to use in planning for the beginning of next school year.  Since that time I have been a part of numerous meetings to plan for our opening.  Still, our full and detailed plan is not complete.  Those conversations will continue daily over the next several weeks.  I do understand how important it is to get the information that I do know out to you in a timely manner.  To that end, I would like to share some information with you.

  • You are being asked to commit now to how you want your child/children to experience school during the first semester of the 20-21 school year. This is being done through a questionnaire in FinalForms that will be released on Tuesday, July 14, and is due by Friday, July 17.We need a decision on all students so we can plan accordingly.
  • We plan to start the 2020-21 school year with students on Tuesday, September 8, 2020, with students choosing either in-person or remote learning five days a week.
    • In-person instruction will be very similar to a traditional school day.
    • Remote learning will be very different than what students experienced at the conclusion of last year.Remote learning will:
      • Be more rigorous
      • Be conducted online only and not have paper copies available
      • Follow the district’s attendance and truancy policy
      • Require daily attendance and participation in lessons
      • Have a much higher level of accountability on students
      • Use the grading scale to determine letter grades, academic standing, GPA, graduation and promotion to the next grade, and eligibility
  • School begins on September 8th for students. It is the intention of the district to have the rest of the calendar remain unchanged.
  • There will be no open houses or visitors/volunteers in buildings this year.
  • We plan to have traditional bus routes.
  • We will not require students to wear face masks, but they are strongly encouraged.
  • Staff will be required to wear face masks or face shields when they are in direct contact with students or less than six feet apart.
  • We plan to follow OHSAA guidelines for the upcoming sports year.
  • Appropriate safety measures will be in place and cleaning/sanitizing will be done multiple times each day.
  • We will promote good hygiene, hand washing and the appropriate use of hand sanitizer.
  • We know circumstances may change in our district/state/nation that requires us to deviate from this plan.

Additional information will be shared with you as it is developed and finalized.

Thank you for your continued support during this time.

We are very excited to announce that Bellefontaine City Schools has partnered with FinalForms, an online forms and data management service that will be replacing paper forms. FinalForms allows you to complete and sign enrollment, back-to-school and athletic participation forms for your students. The most exciting news is that FinalForms saves data from season-to-season and year-to-year, meaning that you will never need to enter the same information twice! FinalForms also pre-populates information wherever possible, for each of your students, saving you time.   READ MORE...
